Dr. Kishi a parent said ‘I’ve Been the Parent Who Shouted at My Kids—Here’s What Changed Everything

Listen as Dr Kishi who is an advocate of the SEJ Process, shares her experience as a stressed parent.

I’ll come clean: I’ve been that parent who shouted at my kids. Not doing their homework, forgetting their PE kit, leaving their room a mess, playing games late into the night—the list goes on.

One day, I was so incensed (I can’t even recall what triggered it) that I put myself in the porch because I was afraid I might lash out physically. I could hear my two children sobbing on the other side of the door, calling for me.

When I opened the door, what I saw shocked me—and I’ve never forgotten it. They stepped back with a terrified, fearful look in their eyes. In that moment, I saw in their eyes the same fear and terror I felt as a child when my parents shouted at me. I vowed then and there: I will never make my children fear me that way again. I am the adult. I need to address my behaviour.

That’s when I turned to the Self Empowerment Journey (SEJ) Process to dissolve the thoughts that led me to shout. I realised the power of the SEJ Process when, not long after, my son said: “Mama, you don’t shout at us anymore.” Since then, I felt a release from the suffering I carried from my own childhood.
